| The West Yorkshire village of Upton is situated to the south of Badsworth and the north of North Elmsall, The former coal mining village boasted its own greyhound stadium, trying to compete with its more illustrious neighbours of Pontefract and Great Houghton. It was situated at 1° 16' W 53° 37'N and the independently run track first opened in 1933. The track had a close association with the local hotel, the Greenfield Hotel, and continued to operate until the outbreak of War in 1939. The site on which the former track once stood is now covered by a housing estate. |
